“The People’s Supermarket” Chef Arthur Potts-Dawson

Delivers a Gourmet Hot Buffet

January, 2011 -- Wells Conservatives Association rolls out the barrel next month with a unique event to be held at Wilkins Cider Farm in Mudgley on Saturday 11th February, 2012.

Hosted by Roger Wilkins, producer of CAMRA-Award winning Somerset cider, the event will include live music from Mick Jagger’s younger sibling Chris Jagger and his critically-acclaimed band, The Hedge Fund.

A mouth-watering selection of hot food will be provided by Roux-trained chef, Arthur Potts Dawson.  Formerly at Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen, the River Café and the Kensington Palace restaurant, Potts Dawson was recently described by Somerset Life magazine as “Somerset’s new food hero” and is the mastermind behind The People’s Supermarket, the revolutionary concept featured in the Channel 4 television series last year.  The People’s Supermarket is a food co-operative which seeks to provide communities with high-quality affordable food that is fair to consumers and producers alike. Potts Dawson currently runs two London restaurants, Acorn House and Water House, and has recently finished his latest book, “Eat Your Veg,” which will be published in May by Mitchell Beazley.

Starting at 7.30pm, the fun on 11th February will be introduced by Jacob Rees-Mogg, MP for North East Somerset.  Guests will be greeted on arrival with a special gin and ginger-infused cider cocktail, and then invited to enjoy a variety of Wilkins’ world-famous ciders together with Arthur Potts Dawson’s gourmet spread while enjoying Chris Jagger’s unique fusion of Cajun, folk, country blues and rock music.

“We are very excited to announce this Wells Conservative Association event, which has already attracted a huge response,” commented Wells Conservatives chairman Carol Davies.  “I’m delighted to say that nearly 200 tickets have already been sold, and the evening looks set to be a highly memorable one.  We are grateful to Roger Wilkins, Chris Jagger and Arthur Potts Dawson for their generous support in putting together such a fantastic evening for everyone.  There are tickets still available, so get in touch and come along!”

The ticket price is £30 per head, which is inclusive of all drinks including unlimited cider, a gourmet hot buffet and live music.  For more information or for tickets please contact the Wells Conservative Association office on 01749 673146 or email office@wellsconservatives.com

Conservative councillors Bente Height and Jeannette Marsh have been holding successful surgeries in Shepton Mallet since their election to Mendip District Council and Town Council.  The surgeries have been a huge success and visited every month by Avon & Somerset Constabulary.  They have also had special invited guests from Somerset Highways and a Somerset District Councillor.

A wide range of local issues have been brought to the surgery: Waste, Development, Planning, Antisocial Behaviour, Vandalism and Highway issues.

The success is based on the surgeries being held in a confidential manner, and by the number of people attending proves that by having surgeries regularly (1st Thursday in the month), and use of advertising and leaflets, the dedicated surgeries benefit the constituency.

This approach has given our councillors a front line position and a genuine understanding of peoples private and local problems.  To supplement the surgeries, they also do regular walkabouts across their patch to make sure that they are always up to date with local developments.

The next surgery is on 2nd February 2012 at 6pm The Cafe Lounge, Paul Street, Shepton Mallet
